Give Me Your Money So We Can Give You Back Your Money

[This isn't really a blog post so much as me entertaining myself with an honest marketing pitch for a product I believe is ridiculously and unsustainably underpriced]




So it's been 8 months since Outside bought BikeReg and the rest of the world and I've basically spent my entire time since then working on

which has been a long and sometimes annoying journey because gluing together formerly disparate systems is never as simple as it seems like it should be.

So it doesn't take a mathemagician to notice that even the first two items on the list are worth more than $50, and if you use Trailforks now we're already up to a $100 value... so basically if you're any kind of bike racer they're willing to take a loss as the "member acquisition cost" (why yes... sometimes I end up on calls with marketing)
I don't really understand how we can stay in business giving this much away for this little money, but hey, some people who get paid a lot more than me to gamble with VC money (I think? I should pay more attention in meetings) decided we can, so you should give them your money and then immediately get that most of that money given back to you when you sign up your next bike race.

In an effort to sign up for Outside+, it wants you to Create an Account. Which I tried doing. But cannot because my email address is already attached to my BikeReg account. So I log in instead. The home page has a header of “Sign up for Outside+ this week and save 50%!” Click on said header. It takes me to the Create an Account page. Now I’m stuck in this loop….. how can I sign up for Outside+ and use my same email??

Is it possible that you haven't logged into Bikereg recently, and your Bikereg account has not been converted into an Outside account? You might try logging in to Bike reg, with your Bike reg account, as a first step as it will prompt you to convert to an Outside account.

Sam Anderson Cheats at Mountain Bike Racing

Note that this is NOT the 24 Hours of Great Glen   Race Report. 24HOGG delivered another AMAZING race weekend that reminded me how much I love this event and why it keeps going strong in its 19th year, long after the 24-hour craze of the 90s has faded.  I will be back in 2015, and you should be too! ---- update:  I made a second post  that answers some questions and has some more info. The only individual prizes you can get at a team 24 hour race are the "Fastest Lap" and "Fastest Night Lap" prizes. If you're a serious racer (which most people at this race AREN'T), you pay attention to this stuff. Back when I used to do the race on the Back Bay Team, we'd fight over who got to ride 2nd because it was the "hot lap spot" -- the first rider on the course who didn't have to do the Le Mans start. US Cyclocross Nationals Travesty Report: Junior Girls

Note:  if you're a USA Cycling representative or Austin 2015 representative, and want to add a comment, rebuttal, fact, or perspective to this discussion, feel free to email me at colin.reuter@gmail.com and I'll post it here verbatim.  I fully accept that I wasn't there and don't know every issue that may have contributed to the decisions that were made.  There may be an explanation for these events that I am not aware of, and if so, I would love to hear it. Important Facts Update and Hyperbole Correction - The Junior Girls 15-16 race was supposed to be 30 minutes long, so the 7 girls who made it 2 laps were not "pulled" from the race, they were removed from the course after the finished their race.  Without firsthand testimony it's impossible to know how clear they were on their race duration being 2 laps shorter than the boys race happening simultaneously -- based on Turner Ramsey's quote to Cyclocross Magazine, it was certainly not a straightforwa...
